Andrew H. Stevenson

I take great pride in being a criminal defense attorney. It is an honor to defend my clients, and I respect and value the trust they place in me. Combining strong trial skills with empathetic concern for each client, I work hard to help achieve the best possible outcome. My practice is limited to criminal defense with an emphasis in the defense of allegations of sexual assault. I have successfully defended clients charged with rape, sexual battery, gross sexual imposition, capital murder, aggravated murder, murder, robbery, kidnapping, drug offenses, domestic violence, and child abuse. I am very active in defending young men in Title IX cases brought by universities. My practice also encompasses OVI defense and related charges of aggravated vehicular homicide and vehicular assault.

In my practice and training, I have developed a strong understanding of the forensic sciences and issues commonly confronted in criminal cases: sexual assault examinations and claims of abuse, forensic pathology, toxicology, tire impressions, speed calculations, finger prints, psychological and psychiatric illnesses. I am most notably familiar with DNA evidence. I frequently consult on DNA issues in cases, and have presented several lectures in an effort to help other attorneys understand and defend against DNA evidence. Finally, I am certified by the Ohio Supreme Court as Lead Trial Counsel in death penalty cases.

Other notable achievements include: past president of the Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (2009) and a continuing board member of OACDL; long standing member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Athens and Fairfield County Bar Associations; a member of the National Trial Lawyers Top 100 continuously since 2013; and being a graduate of NACDL’s National Criminal Defense College.
