Defending Against Sexting / Pandering Charges in Athens and Lancaster

More and more frequently, teenagers are exchanging nude photographs of themselves via their cell phones. While this may be simple teenage sexual curiosity, the legal consequences can be severe. Even though the age of consent in Ohio is 16 years of age, the law forbids anyone from creating, possessing or distributing obscene (nude) photographs of anyone under the age of 18 (including yourself). The legal name for sexting is Pandering Obscenity Involving a Minor. This is a serious felony charge. More drastic, if convicted of the offense, a juvenile may be required to register as a sex offender for up to 25 years. If your son or daughter has been accused of sexting or charged with pandering, I can help.

I am Andrew H. Stevenson, Ohio criminal defense attorney with offices in Lancaster and Athens. With more than 20 years of criminal defense experience, I am able to defend your son or daughter against sexting or pandering charges. I will to fight to prevent any form of sex offender registration.

If asked by law enforcement or a school official to "come and discuss" the situation, it is very important that you call me first. Unfortunately, many parents are unaware of the seriousness of the potential consequences, and try to "handle" the situation themselves. This is simply not a good idea.
