Practice Overview and Philosophy:
I focus my legal practice solely in the area of criminal defense. By limiting my practice to criminal defense I believe that I am able to provide more effective legal representation for my clients. My goal is to vigorously defend you while at the same time help you deal with the stress and complications of being accused of a crime. I realize that this may be one of the most stressful and difficult events a person experiences in a lifetime. I am here to listen, advise, and assist.
I provide legal representation to individuals charged with all state crimes. People who hire me to represent them do so because they are not just looking for a quick deal. Although many cases are eventually resolved with a plea bargain, the process is more complicated than simply "getting a good deal." Rather than focus on a deal, I begin each case by evaluating the strength and weaknesses of the allegations, understanding the circumstances surrounding the charge from my client's perspective, and focusing on the defense strategy. Once a strategy is developed and the defenses examined, trial analysis begins. In this stage, the likelihood of success at trial is discussed. I believe that only after you have assessed your likelihood at trial are you then able to effectively consider a plea bargain.
Ultimately, my clients make the decision whether or not to proceed to trial. I do not put any pressure on my clients to take a deal, and because of my fee arrangement, clients are not constrained by economics in making that decision. I have found that with my help, my clients are able to make an informed, well-thought decision regarding the eventual resolution of their case. The ability to effectively make the decision is the by-product of careful thought, case preparation, investigation, and experience.
Fees:
In most cases, clients are charged a single agreed fee. The fee paid covers the entire cost of representation - from arraignment to the conclusion of a jury trial, plea, or dismissal of the case. This fee arrangement provides the client with two advantages. First, the client knows the full and complete cost of my legal representation up front. Second, the client is not put in the position of being unable to afford the cost of a trial, and therefore, avoids the dilemma of having to plead because of financial constraints. Each fee is determined on a case-by-case basis and is a factor of the nature and number of charges and the complexity of the case. Fees are due in full before representation begins, but financing for clients is available through Sable-Law.
Office Location:
My office is located at the corner of Main and Pearl Streets across the street from the Hall of Justice (Common Pleas Court House) and just down the street from the Fairfield County Jail in Lancaster, Ohio. It is the blue house on the corner by the traffic light. Parking is available on Pearl and Main Streets. I represent clients throughout Central Ohio, including Franklin, Perry, Hocking, and Fairfield counties, which include the cities of Lancaster, Logan, Columbus, New Lexington, and Pickerington.
